Japan involved in Middle East job creation

TOKYO, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- The Japanese government has launched a Middle East job support program under a plan adopted at the last G8 summit to stimulate reforms in the region.

Since Nov. 23 government officials and job training executives from six countries in the Middle East and North Africa have been in Japan to discuss job creation with Japanese government officials, Kyodo News reported Sunday.

Japan's move follows an initiative for social and economic reforms that was introduced by the United States at the last Group of Eight summit on Sea Island, Georgia, in June. The G8 nations adopted the initiative amid concerns that the Middle East is becoming a hotbed for terrorists.

Japanese officials are expected to appeal for concrete job training programs at a December meeting in Morocco entitled "Forum for the Future," which will discuss implementation of the job creation initiative.

The job training programs will be coordinated with companies that may create jobs and will be planned in line with industrial policies of Middle Eastern governments. Japan will call for G8 countries to participate in the programs.
