WACO, Texas, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Seven soldiers were killed Monday when an Army Black Hawk helicopter hit the guy wires on a Texas television tower and crashed, military officials said.
A McLennan County justice of the peace confirmed all aboard were killed, Fort Hood spokesman Cecil Green said. They were not immediately identified.
The UH-60 Black Hawk crashed about 30 miles northeast of Fort Hood en route to the Red River Army Depot at Texarkana, Texas, officials said.
It was foggy and misty in the area when the helicopter struck the support wires on the television transmission tower and plummeted to the ground.
Ken Brown, a McLennan County constable, was one of the first on the scene. He told the Waco Tribune-Herald he saw at least four or five bodies.
The helicopter was from the 4th Infantry Division based at Fort Hood, one of the Army's largest training centers.
An accident investigation team from the U.S. Army Safety Center at Fort Rucker, Ala., was en route to conduct a formal investigation.
