MOSUL, Iraq, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Scores of bodies are turning up in Mosul as Iraqi insurgents focus their terror attacks on vulnerable citizens.
U.S. troops Friday found 15 bodies, and Thursday 17 bodies were found, the New York Times reported Saturday. That brings to at least 65 the number of murder victims found during the last eight days.
Most of those bodies have been identified as members of Iraq's new security forces.
U.S. Lt. Col. Paul Hastings called the new killing spree part of the insurgents' "campaign of fear, intimidation and murder, and doing whatever they can to disrupt operations here."
Some victims had been shot in the head, and one was decapitated, he said. Many were mutilated.
The attacks on Iraqis, which often begin with abductions at taxi stands, appear to follow the insurgents' inability to achieve gains by directly attacking U.S. troops.
