SINGAPORE, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Singapore is considering extending its smoking ban to bus stops, coffee shops and outdoor hawkers' centers, Channel NewsAsia reported Thursday.

The ban currently only covers indoor places where food is sold and shopping centers.

The move follows feedback from the public, with the call to ban smoking in bars and nightclubs becoming louder.

Environment and Water Resources Minister Yaacob Ibrahim told Parliament Wednesday that the National Environment Agency was studying the issue and considering a wider ban.

He said the government would consult the public and businesses before making a decision.

Members of Parliament who also spoke Wednesday emphasized the need to protect passive smokers, especially the young.
