Neo-Nazi bomb plot trial opens in Germany

MUNICH, Germany, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- German prosecutors Wednesday accused Martin Wiese of plotting to bomb a Jewish cultural center in opening statements at the neo-Nazi's Munich trial.

Wiese's defense argues he is innocent and was framed by German security services.

Wiese, described as a rowdy member of Munich's neo-Nazi scene, is accused of trying to blow up a ceremony at a new Jewish cultural center that was to be attended by major members of the Jewish community as well as the German president last year.

Prosecutors claim Wiese's gang planned to use Munich's sewer system to gain access to the site. Police seized weapons, dynamite and Nazi literature in raids that foiled the attack two months before the event, the BBC reported.

But Wiese says a government agent posed as a member of his neo-Nazi group and was the real instigator of the plot.
