NEW YORK, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Most U.S. adults, including a majority of those who voted for Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., want creationism taught along with evolution in public schools.
A CBS News poll, released Tuesday, found that 57 percent of those who voted for Kerry over President Bush, want both evolution and creationism taught in public secondary schools. Overall, 65 percent of U.S. residents want both taught in schools.
As for how humans came to be on Earth in their present condition, 55 percent of all U.S. residents think God created humans in their present form. Only 13 percent think humans evolved without benefit of divine intervention.
The poll was conducted Nov. 18-21 among a nationwide random sample of 885 adults interviewed by telephone. There were 795 registered voters. The sampling error was 3 percentage points.
