Danforth to get award

WASHINGTON, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- John Danforth, the U.S. envoy to the United Nations, will be honored by the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy at Georgetown University.

The annual Trainor Award for Distinction in the Conduct of Diplomacy will be given to Danforth Dec. 6. During the ceremony, Danforth will deliver a talk on "Multilateralism and the United Nations."

Danforth played a key role in Sudan, first as the U.S. envoy to the civil war between the country's north and south, and now as the U.S. envoy to the United Nations when the crisis in Darfur has dominated the agenda.

Danforth, an ordained Episcopalian minister, is seen as the acceptable face of U.S. diplomacy and his speech is likely to offer clues to the Bush administration's foreign policy approaches over the next four years.
