Tunisia president sworn in for 4th term

TUNIS, Tunisia, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Tunisian President Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali was sworn in Wednesday to fourth term in office following his re-election last October 24.

Addressing the new parliament which convened in its first session, Ben Ali promised to further "consolidate democracy," boost the multiparty system and reinforce the implementation of human rights.

He also vowed to introduce new economic policies to help Tunisia achieve economic modernization and growth and catch up with developed countries.

Ben Ali was re-elected by 94.48 percent of the vote.
