TOKYO, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Japanese lawmakers called for sanctions against North Korea after the government decided information provided on 10 missing kidnap victims was not credible.
North Korea handed over what it said were the remains of Megumi Yokota, one of 10 Japanese still missing after being abducted decades ago, and documents on six others, during a visit to Pyongyang by a Japanese delegation.
Pyongyang reiterated that eight of the 10 believed by Japan to have been abducted were dead and two had never entered the country, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported Tuesday.
As the head of the Japanese delegation, Mitoji Yabunaka, director general of the Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, told families of the abductees Monday that North Korea also presented photographs, medical charts and other documents on six victims it said were dead.
The Japanese government, unconvinced by Pyongyang's explanation, said it would analyze the documents brought back by the delegation.
