Police: Couple tried to sacrifice children

ROCHESTER, N.H., Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Police were investigating Saturday a New Hampshire couple who allegedly forced their way into a church intending to sacrifice three children on the altar.

Police said they received a 911 call in the early hours Wednesday morning from the staff at St. Mary's Church in Rochester, N.H., the Boston Herald reported. The call said Nicole Mancini of Farmington, N.H., and John Thurber of Rochester had forced their way into the church with three boys, all Mancini's sons. Thurber is the father of the youngest boy.

Police said the couple planned to sacrifice all three children, and had already attempted to enter a Farmington church, but had been unable to enter.

The couple was arrested without incident, and each was charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. No weapon was found. Thurber was also charged with marijuana possession.

The three children have been turned over to state custody.
