Theft reported at Democratic committee

WASHINGTON, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Besides losing the presidential and some senatorial races, the Democrats may also have come close to losing $350,000 from their campaign committee.

The FBI is investigating the suspected theft after the party's compliance unit, which monitors donations, discovered last month about $350,000 in donor checks to its senate campaign committee had been diverted to a private bank account for DSCAMPCO, the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee, Washington Post reported.

All but about $10,000 of the money has since been recovered from the account, the report said.

Roger Chiang with the committee was the person who opened the DSCAMPCO account, according to bank records that included his Social Security number and home address, the Post reported.

Chiang was fired last month after the committee discovered the money was missing, officials said.

The Post said Chiang did not respond to several messages left on his home voice mail. Brad Woodhouse, a committee spokesman, said the U.S. attorney's office is investigating the case.
