LOS GATOS, Calif., Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Chinese American Iris Chang, author of "The Rape of Nanking," was found dead in her car of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound outside San Francisco.

Chang, 36, was found Tuesday morning by a commuter on a rural route south of Los Gatos, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

"I'm just shocked. She was a real woman warrior trying to fight injustice," said retired San Francisco Superior Court Judge Lillian Sing, who was helping Chang produce a documentary about Japanese treatment of American POWs during World War II.
