Fla. teacher charged with beating students

CASSELBERRY, Fla., Nov. 11 (UPI) -- A Florida special education teacher is charged with beating and humiliating her students, including slamming a child's head into a desk, breaking two teeth.

Kathleen Mary Garrett, 48, of the South Seminole Middle School in Casselberry, was arrested Wednesday and faces nine counts of aggravated child abuse, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

Garrett "intentionally and repeatedly threatened, battered and tortured these victims in front of their peers," some of whom are autistic. "The emotional damage ... has not yet been determined," Casselberry police investigator James Goodman wrote in the arrest affidavit.

Garrett was released Wednesday after posting $7,000 bail.
