Texas killer executed for car theft murder

HUNTSVILLE, Texas, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- A former warehouse worker was executed Wednesday in Texas for the murder of a Houston man during a car theft eight years ago.

Frederick McWilliams, 30, was pronounced dead at 6:18 p.m. after receiving a lethal injection for the murder of Alfonso Rodriguez Jr. during a 1996 crime spree.

In his final statement, McWilliams said: "There are people that will be mad thinking I try to seek freedom from this, but as long as I see - freedom belongs to me and I'll keep on keeping on. The shackles and chains that just might hold my body can't hold my mind, but will kill me otherwise."

McWilliams and his accomplices were looking for a car to steal for use in robberies when they came upon Rodriguez asleep in his automobile. They attempted to force him into the trunk, but he resisted and McWilliams shot him in his head, court records said.

McWilliams was the 22nd convicted killer executed this year in Texas.
