Confusion over Peterson jury's progress

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Nov. 8 (UPI) -- The California jury in the Scott Peterson murder trial continued deliberating Monday following reports that the panel may be deadlocked.

The judge in the Redwood City courtroom sent the panel back to work after reissuing some of the instructions he had given four days ago at the end of the testimony.

Court TV said the report of the deadlock originated with the jury's request to see more of the evidence presented during the trial.

The confusion came on the heels of a motion for a mistrial made by defense attorney Mark Geragos, who objected to the jurors' inspection of the boat that Peterson allegedly used to dump his wife's body in San Francisco Bay.

Geragos contended earlier in the day that some of the jurors tried to test the stability of the boat in violation of rules prohibiting experimentation by the jurors.
