Undercover agent now third in line at CIA

WASHINGTON, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- An undercover CIA officer with 22 years experience has been named executive director of the intelligence agency, officials said.

The undercover officer, known as "Dusty," is third in line at the CIA, behind Director Peter Goss and Deputy Director John McLaughlin, reported CNN Sunday.

Dusty's full name is to be made public once the agency has established that revealing his identity won't compromise any classified or ongoing activities, a CIA spokesman said.

Disty will be responsible for the agency's day-to-day operations and for ensuring officers have the right tools and conditions to do their jobs. He previously worked in covert operations overseas, the Counterterrorism Center and the Directorate of Science and Technology.

Goss, former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, had initially picked Michael Kostiw, a committee staff member, for the position.

Kostiw withdrew his name for consideration when it was reported he had resigned from the CIA 20 years ago after being caught shoplifting. Kostiw is a senior advisor to Goss.
