Beslan commanders charged with negligence

MOSCOW, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Senior Russian police officers will face charges of negligence over the Beslan school massacre, Interfax news agency said Friday.

One officer has already been charged with negligence resulting in human death in connection with the Beslan hostage siege, said Deputy Prosecutor General Nikolai Shepel according to the Interfax report.

"Police Col. Miroslav Aidarov, commander of North Ossetian Pravoberezhniy District's Interior Office will face charges of negligence resulting in human deaths in the Beslan terror attack," Shepel said.

"When he leaves hospital, police Col. Mukhajir Yevloyev, commander of Ingusheta's Malgobek District Interior Office, will face similar charges," Shepel said. Charges have also been laid against the deputies of the two men, he added.

Some 344 people including more than 150 children were massacred by Chechen separatists at a school in Beslan, North Ossetia in September.
