Air Force wants help reviewing Boeing ties

WASHINGTON, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- The Pentagon is considering a massive, independent review of the Air Force's contracting procedures and major weapons programs awarded to Boeing.

Specifically, the Air Force has asked the Defense Department's acting acquisition czar, Michael Wynne, to review dozens of Air Force contracts going back to 1993 in which former high-ranking Air Force official Darleen Druyun played a role, before she joined Boeing, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

Such a review, which the Air Force's acquisition chief has requested could be expanded to look at acquisition procedures and anti-corruption safeguards across all military services.

The Air Force also may ask a group of outside experts to review how Druyun was able to steer contracts to Boeing and measures the service has taken to tighten weapons-buying controls.

Further, the Air Force has indicated a willingness to surrender some of its authority to the Government Accountability Office, Congress' investigative arm, to resolve protests filed by Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems of Great Britain over tainted contracts that Druyun awarded to Boeing.
