TOKYO, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Japan intends to pressure North Korea for information on 10 abducted Japanese as yet unaccounted for, in talks set for Nov. 9-12 in Pyongyang.
Japan has upgraded the level of the delegation it will send to this third round of working-level talks in an effort to intensify pressure on the North Koreans to provide results, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported Thursday.
Mitoji Yabunaka, director general of the Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, will lead a delegation of 15 or more officials, including members of the Cabinet Secretariat and officers from the National Police Agency.
The police officers will include experts on identification capable of confirming the authenticity of any documents presented by Pyongyang, the newspaper reported.
Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura said that documents on two of the missing Japanese were handed over to Tokyo late last month via the Japanese Embassy in Beijing. They included the passport and photos of Keiko Arimoto and video footage of medical records purported to be those of Megumi Yokota.
A ministry official said the medical records were too unclear to be verified.
