
VILNIUS, Lithuania, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus said Wednesday he was happy W. Bush" class="tpstyle">George W. Bush had been re-elected president of the United States.
Speaking on Lithuanian Radio, Adamkus said: "My reaction is very positive because we ourselves know President Bush- - he has demonstrated his highly positive attitude towards Lithuania and exceptional attention to it."
Always mindful of possible security threats from Russia, Lithuania has sought to build a strong relationship with Washington during Bush's presidency.
Earlier this year, Lithuania joined both NATO and the European Union.
Adamkus said Bush's re-election, "gives us assurances that we can reach him at any time, at any moment, and talk to him. And I think that he will understand us in the majority of instances."
Leaders from Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia have also issued statements welcoming Bush's victory.
