Silly String banned on Hollywood Blvd.

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Halloween revelers in Los Angeles were reminded Sunday that spraying Silly String along Hollywood Boulevard was no longer acceptable.

The city put a ban on the canned novelty this year due to the excessive amounts that pile up every Halloween when Hollywood becomes a Mecca for costumed carousers.

Street vendors have sold cases of Silly String every year to the estimated 100,000 people who descend upon the boulevard every Halloween. The result has been a big mess that costs the city about $200,000 to clean up.

The LAPD reminded party animals Sunday that the city passed an ordinance earlier this year that slaps a $1,000 fine in the trick-or-treat bag of anyone caught violating the order. Silly String is, however, legal in Hollywood during the rest of the year.
