Schumer coasting to re-election

ALBANY, N.Y., Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., holds a commanding 56-point lead over GOP challenger Howard Mills.

A Marist College survey found 72 percent of respondents support Schumer's re-election bid, while only 16 percent support Mills, the New York Post reported.

Schumer leads Mills even among Republicans, 46 percent to 38 percent. Respondents in New York City favored Schumer by an overwhelming 83 percent to 7 percent margin, and his job-approval rating is at an all-time high of 61 percent.

The poll surveyed 817 registered voters Oct. 25 and 26. The margin of error was plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
