NYC mob family kicked out by Albanian gang

NEW YORK, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- A violent Albanian gang has taken over the Astoria area of New York City from the Luchese mafia family, federal prosecutors said.

The FBI and Manhattan U.S. Attorney David Kelley announced Tuesday Alex Rudaj, the boss of the Balkan gang that goes by the name of The Corporation, was arrested along with 21 others on racketeering charges, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday.

The indictment indicates the gambling operations of the Luchese family, founded in the '50s, have been slowly taken over by the new Eastern European gang.

"We have seen ... groups such as the Russians moving in on La Cosa Nostra. This happens to be the most extensive that I've seen," Kelly said.
