NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla., Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Former Attorney General Janet Reno did some teaching this week at John F. Kennedy Middle School in North Miami Beach.

Reno visited a seventh-grade class to tell the story of her life and answer some questions, The Miami Herald reported Wednesday.

"You can be anything you want to be if it's the right thing to do and if you put your mind to it," Reno told the children.

"Use your education to both broaden your horizon and increase your depth in knowledge," she said.

She described her life from her eight years serving in the Clinton administration, the Branch Davidian controversy in Waco, Texas, the raid to seize Elian Gonzalez in Miami, her struggles with Parkinson's disease, and the death of her mother, Jane.

Reno's appearance was part of Teach for America Week, a program intended to preach the importance of education for low-income students.
