DALLAS, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Former President George H.W. Bush campaigned Tuesday in Dallas for Republican Rep. Pete Sessions in one of the nation's hottest congressional races.
Bush said his son was grateful for Sessions' support during the past eight years in the U.S. House and the congressman had earned re-election to a fifth term.
Sessions father, William Sessions, was FBI director under President Ronald Reagan and the elder Bush.
Bush, 80, said he has been campaigning recently in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. He was in Oklahoma earlier Tuesday for Republican Senate candidate Tom Coburn.
Sessions and Bush said they were disappointed Sessions' Democratic opponent, Martin Frost, has been using photos of the current President Bush in his campaign literature, implying support from the White House.
Justin Kitch, a Frost spokesman, said the Democrat is proud he supported former President Bush's military action against Saddam Hussein in 1991. He called it disappointing that Sessions did not support the current president's airport security measures three months after 9/11.
