FORT COLLINS, Colo., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- A Colorado State University student was critically injured in a fraternity fight and charges were pending against another frat member.

Police in Fort Collins said William Taylor Whitmire, 20, a Sigma Chi member from Atlanta, underwent emergency surgery Wednesday after suffering a skull fracture outside the Sigma Chi house.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in the incident, KMGH-TV, Denver reported.

Police said the fight started with a verbal dispute between the unnamed suspect and another Sigma Chi member outside a bar. Later, the suspect and a friend went to the Sigma Chi house looking for the other frat member involved in the argument, police said.

The suspect was carrying a baseball bat and Whitmire was knocked to the sidewalk, where he hit his head.

The attack happened three days after all CSU fraternities went dry in the wake of the alcohol-related death of a fraternity pledge.
