Slain Saudi gunman is wanted terrorist

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Saudi authorities said Wednesday one of three gunmen killed by police in a gunfight in Riyadh is on an official list of 26 most wanted terror suspects.

Interior Ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Mansour Turki said Abdel Majid bin Mohammed al-Manii', accused of having links with al-Qaida and the terrorist bombings that rocked the kingdom in the past two years, was killed along with two accomplices in a gunbattle in Riyadh on Tuesday.

"Al-Manii' was a senior leader of the deviating group and was responsible for edicts that authorized the bombing attacks and we gave proof that he was involved in assassination operations and sought to recruit the atheists to carry out violence," Turki said.

Al-Manii', a Saudi, appears on the official list of 26 most wanted terrorists, of whom six have surrendered to take advantage of a royal amnesty. Eleven are still on the run and the rest were killed.

Turki identified the other slain gunmen as Abdel Hamid bin Abdel Aziz al-Yahya, a Saudi who helped terror suspects to find hideouts, and Issam bin Moqbel al-Oteibi, a Saudi national with a criminal record.
