SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- The third debate between Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D., and GOP challenger John Thune was dominated by tension and accusations of distortion.
"John either doesn't know the facts or he desires not to acknowledge the facts," the Sioux Falls Argus Leader quoted Daschle as saying when rebutting Thune's accusation that Senate Democrats under Daschle's leadership have consistently blocked President Bush's judicial nominees.
"You're dreaming if you think the courts aren't going to try to define marriage for us," Thune fired at Daschle on another topic, after Daschle explained why he doesn't see the necessity for President Bush's proposed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriages.
The two contenders are expected to have at least three more televised debates before the Nov. 2 election.
