Bush numbers slip a bit in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Another poll of Oklahoma voters shows the race for U.S. Senate between Democratic U.S. Rep. Brad Carson and Republican Tom Coburn continues to be a dead heat.

A KWTV NEWS 9 poll conducted by Wilson Research Strategies released Monday showed Carson leading Coburn by only 2 points, well within the survey's 4.5-point margin of error.

Some analyst argue that Coburn's inability to win the undecided voters he needs may be hurting the prospects of other Republican candidates, including President Bush.

"Tom Coburn might actually be impacting Bush's numbers. That's clearly what happened this week; that's what drove (John) Kerry's numbers up this week," said Chris Wilson, president of the Virginia-based polling company.

Bush still maintains a comfortable 12-point lead over his Democratic challenger; however, it is the smallest lead he has had since February.
