ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Pakistan security forces searched for two Chinese engineers and their Pakistani guard who were kidnapped Saturday in a tribal area near Afghanistan.
Officials said five unidentified gunmen seized Wang Ende and Wang Peng and their guard about 8 a.m. local time in the South Waziristan area, the China's official Xinhua news agency reported.
The abduction occurred as the three were traveling to a project site in the tribal area, about 18 miles west of Tank town in the North West Frontier province.
Their vehicle was found abandoned by the road with its tires punctured, a Chinese diplomat said.
Officials said the Pakistani Frontier Corps were following the kidnappers in an effort to free the hostages.
