Farm wife fights off robbers

SOMERSET WEST, South Africa, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Police in South Africa say a 65-year-old farm wife returned fire on six armed robbers, sending them packing.

The Cape Times reports that the robbers broke in on the couple as they watched television in their home in Somerset West, Western Cape Province. When the men shot the husband in the thigh and stomach, the wife ran upstairs and locked herself in the bedroom.

She told police that robbers fired at her through the door but fled when she fired back.

Police were still searching for the robbers.
