WASHINGTON, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- The Democratic and Republican vice presidential hopefuls boned up Sunday for their face-off Tuesday in Ohio.
Democratic Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina spent the weekend in Chautauqua, New York with his wife, Elizabeth, and Sen. John Kerry's top advisers Bob Shrum and Ron Klain, CNN reported.
Vice President Dick Cheney was in Jackson Hole, Wyo., for several practice sessions. He prepped last weekend at his home in Washington.
Edwards will rehearse with Washington attorneys Bob Barnett in Cheney's role and Andy Pincus playing moderator Gwen Ifill of PBS.
Edwards had wanted a town-hall format with podiums, but at the Bush-Cheney campaign's insistence the candidates will sit a few feet from each other across a desk, a format Edwards "feels comfortable" with, said spokesman Mark Kornblau.
The 90-minute debate in Cleveland will start at 9 p.m. ET. There is no limit to the topics that will be included in the 16 questions Ifill will ask.
Cheney is to field the first question, a decision made by coin flip.
Kerry and President Bush are scheduled to engage in their second debate Friday in St. Louis, Mo., in a town hall format. Their third debate, on economic and domestic issues, is scheduled for October 13 in Tempe, Ariz.
