SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- A suspect in a high-profile San Francisco stabbing death could be back in the Bay Area sometime next week.

Rafael Cuevas was picked up by the Border Patrol in Arizona and held for police in connection with the fatal September 17 knifing of a fan at SBC Park following a San Francisco Giants baseball game.

The incident generated national headlines and put Cuevas among the city's Top 10 fugitives; Mayor Gavin Newsome personally announced the arrest on Friday.

KTVU-TV in San Francisco said Cuevas was picked up while apparently trying to re-enter the United States from Mexico in the Nogales area.

City officials said the next step would be to bring Cuevas back to California, possibly by Wednesday, although the process could take a few weeks if he decides to fight extradition.
