War-crimes suspect indicted in U.S.

BOSTON, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- A Massachusetts construction worker faces immigration charges that allege he lied about possible connection to Bosnian war crimes.

Marko Boskic, who lived in Peabody, Mass., was the subject of a five-count indictment handed down by a Boston grand jury, alleging Boskic killed "because of race, religion, nationality, ethnic origin and political opinion," the Boston Globe reported. Boskic had not been charged with any war crimes and it was not known if he would be deported.

His attorney told the Globe, Boskic was not guilty of either immigration violations or war crimes.

The 40-year-old man was arrested a month ago on immigration fraud charges and has ordered held without bond pending arraignment.

Boskic entered the United States in 2000 after applying for refugee status. The indictment charges he failed to tell immigration officials he was a solider in a Bosnian Serb Army, which persecuted Muslims, the Globe said.

A witness at the trial of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic last year said he and Boskic were among an eight-member execution team that killed 1,200 Muslim men at a farm near Srebrenica in 1995.
