In Florida, Harris may be vulnerable

Sept. 27, 2004 at 8:39 AM

WASHINGTON, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- A new poll indicates Rep. Katherine Harris, R-Fla., a lightning rod for criticism during the 2000 Florida recount, may be in trouble for re-election.

An Anzalone Liszt Research poll of 500 likely voters showed Harris ahead of her opponent, Democrat Jan Schneider, by 6 points, 50 percent to 44 percent, barely outside the poll's 4.4 point margin of error.

The survey also showed Harris' favorable rating at 49 percent while 44 percent said they viewed her in negative light -- with 48 percent of respondents in the poll, conducted Sept. 15-19 for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said it was time for someone new to represent the district vs. 46 percent who said they were in favor of re-electing Harris.
