Bill Gates' father says his son is lucky

NEW DELHI, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- The father of Microsoft Corp. founder Bill Gates told Indian reporters he attributes much of his billionaire son's success to luck.

"He did the right thing at the right place at the right time," said William Gates Sr., who was in India to see some of the work being done on HIV/AIDS by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The Times of India reported Monday Gates said when his son was growing up he hacked into school programs to study computers and sometimes spent all night at nearby computer centers.

"Bill was a smart kid, enormously curious," his father said. "If he didn't understand something, he would make an enormous effort. He used to spend a lot of time in the library."
