Pelosi touts new Democratic plan

WASHINGTON, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Rep. Nancy Pelosi says Republicans are undermining U.S. prosperity and a Democratic Party-controlled government would improve U.S. foreign relations.

The House Democratic leader pointed to her party's "New Partnership for America's Future" and used the Democrats' weekly radio address Saturday to focus on two parts of the plan -- prosperity and national security.

"Democrats believe in a prosperity that provides all Americans with the opportunity to succeed and to live a secure and comfortable life," Pelosi said. "We support middle-class tax cuts, investing in education, providing affordable healthcare and keeping good jobs here at home."

Later she said: "Democrats would build strong diplomatic alliances to protect America's national interests. John Kerry and a Democratic Congress would signal a new message of cooperation and respect to our allies that would stand in stark contrast to the Bush administration's condescension and go-it-alone policy."

Kerry is the Democratic Party's nominee for president.

Pelosi spent much of her address knocking the Republican Party, saying: "Sadly, Republicans in Washington are undermining our prosperity." and "With nothing but a record of failure at home and abroad, Republicans are sinking further into the politics of fear."
