Gunmen abduct two Egyptians in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Two Egyptians have been seized by gunmen in Baghdad, the third kidnapping of foreigners in the city this month, CNN reported Friday.

Armed men tied up the guards outside the Egyptians' office in western Baghdad Thursday night, put the two engineers in a black BMW and took them to an unknown location, officials said.

The victims worked for Iraqna, a subsidiary of the Egyptian-owned mobile telecommunications company Orascom.

Last week, Muslim extremists kidnapped two U.S. residents and a Briton.

The two Americans were later beheaded by the group led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a Jordanian.

Two weeks ago gunmen kidnapped two women Italian aid workers in broad daylight in Baghdad.

The Italian government has urged caution on reports that the women, who were working for the humanitarian group Bridges to Baghdad, have been killed, saying the claims are "unreliable" and part of a terror campaign being carried out through the media.
