Russia close to collapse: Zyuganov

MOSCOW, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- The Russian power system could collapse if more terror acts like the Beslan massacre occurred, Russia's communist leader has warned.

"Two or three acts more of terrorism of this kind and the system of power that is barely alive will collapse completely," Gennady Zyuganov, leader of the Russian Communist Party said according to an Interfax news agency report carried in the Moscow Times Thursday. "No police measures can help resolve this problem."

Zyuganov blamed the policies of President Vladimir Putin for the rise of terrorism in Russia.

Speaking in a debate Wednesday in the State Duma, the main chamber of the Russian parliament he said, "The main reason for what is happening in the country lies in the political line that has been pursued all these years" under the presidencies of Putin and his predecessor Boris Yeltsin.
