Kerry slams Bush on healthcare

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry Tuesday attacked President Bush on his healthcare policy, a day after slamming his policies in Iraq.

"I believe we need a new direction on healthcare to keep our businesses strong and our families healthy," Kerry said in a statement.

"My plan is based on incentives and the marketplace. And it finally does something about the spiraling healthcare costs that are bankrupting middle-class families and burdening small businesses all across America."

Kerry was to speak in Jacksonville, Fla., Tuesday where he would tout his own plan to reform the U.S. healthcare system. Kerry said his plan would make healthcare more affordable by cutting costs, providing healthcare relief for all businesses, tax credits to small businesses and tax credits and subsidies for families.

"George Bush has had four years to do something -- anything -- about this problem," Kerry said. "He has done nothing, and now he's asking for another four years to make the same wrong choices for America."
