Bogus warrants land woman in jail

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Stancy Nesby is suing San Francisco officials for $1 million after being mistakenly detained, arrested or jailed six times in 15 months.

Another woman used Nesby's name when she was arrested for cocaine possession, then failed to show up in court and a judge issued arrest warrants for Nesby, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Tuesday.

Nesby learned of the error and hired a lawyer to clear it up. He got a judge to rule the warrants had been issued in error and the San Francisco police acknowledged the error, Nesby said.

However, authorities never voided the incorrect warrants and Nesby has been arrested again and again and again.

After being arrested again Saturday because of the bogus warrants, Berkeley police suggested she remain at home until the warrants are cleared up, Nesby said.
