Blake attorney fingers Brando in slaying

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Robert Blake's attorney says he will prove to a Los Angeles court that the troubled actor did not kill his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley.

Attorney M. Gerland Schwartzbach told Superior Judge Darlene Schempp he has evidence linking an acquaintance of Christian Brando to the 2001 killing outside a Los Angeles restaurant, the World Entertainment News Network reported Tuesday.

Although the judge has once already rejected the defense motion to enter evidence against Brando's buddy, she has reportedly relented and said she would consider the request during an Oct. 14 hearing.

Bakley originally told Brando, the son of Marlon Brando, that the child she was carrying was his -- but then ended up marrying Blake, who turned out to be the real father of the little girl.

Blake, 71, has pleaded innocent and his trial is scheduled to start in November.
