Kerry labels Bush 'excuses president'

DETROIT, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry attacked President George Bush's record on job creation and the federal deficit calling him the "excuses president."

He said Bush takes no responsibility for losing a net 900,000 jobs on his watch, the first U.S. president since Herbert Hoover to lose jobs during his presidency.

"This president has created more excuses than jobs," Kerry told the Detroit Economic Club. "His is the excuse presidency -- never wrong, never responsible, never to blame."

A USA Today/CNN/Gallup Poll conducted Sept. 10-13 showed Kerry leading Bush 50 percent to 44 percent in Michigan. Kerry began laying out his own economic plan that includes a cut in the corporate tax rate and tax credits for small businesses to lower health care costs.

Kerry blamed a bad U.S. trade policy for a growing trade deficit he says will cost more workers jobs.

"Our trade policy is flawed. The balance in that relationship has shifted. We are being exploited," Kerry said.
