WASHINGTON, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- President W. Bush" class="tpstyle">George W. Bush has taken a slim 47-to-44 percent lead among registered voters in Pennsylvania, according to Thursday's Quinnipiac University poll.
And, though the survey indicates it is too close to call, Bush also leads Democratic nominee John F. Kerry among likely voters, 49 percent to 48 percent.
According to the data, military veterans in the state back Bush 54 percent to 34 percent while all respondents, by a margin of 56 to 38 percent, said Bush acts more like a leader than Kerry.
"The president's bounce from the Republican Convention has turned the battle for Pennsylvania from a 5-point Kerry lead to a slight Bush advantage," Quinnipiac's Clay Richards said, attributing the surge to Bush having shown in recent weeks that he is "a stronger leader with a clearer vision of where he wants to take this country."
In the August Quinnipiac Pennsylvania poll, Kerry led Bush 48 percent to 43 percent.
The data for the Septemeber poll was collected in a survey of 1,205 Pennsylvania registered voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percent. The subsample of 792 likely voters has a margin of error of 3.5 percent.
