Texas mom hears from missing daughter

MESQUITE, Texas, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- The mother of a missing Texas girl said Monday she received a letter from the 12-year-girl who apparently thinks she is on vacation with her stepfather.

Angela Hudachek said Jami Hicks has visited Busch Gardens in Virginia, Times Square in New York, Six Flags and the Atlantic Ocean with her stepfather, according to the letter, The Dallas Morning News online edition reported.

Hudachek said her daughter wrote they were headed to Hershey, Pa., next "to see where chocolate is made." Police in Hershey were on the watch for the pair.

An Amber Alert was issued for Jami Hicks on Sept. 7, four days after police believe she and her stepfather, James Hudachek, left while her mother was out of town. They left the couple's two 9-year-old sons at home alone.

On Friday, state Child Protection Service officials asked a judge to grant the agency custody of the boys and Jami, when she is returned. The CPS doesn't believe the mother is protecting the children from risk, a spokeswoman said.
