CINCINNATI, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- President Bush made the "wrong choices" in Iraq, leaving the United States short on resources domestically, Sen. John Kerry said Wednesday in Cincinnati.
Sen. Kerry, D-Mass., repeated his call for a different course in the war in Iraq, telling attendees at a campaign event in Ohio, "When it comes to Iraq, it's not that I would have done one thing differently from the president; I would have done almost everything differently."
Kerry claims because of "miscalculations" by Bush, the United States is in Iraq "without the allies we should have had" and has thus been saddled with $200 billion in war-related costs.
The Democratic nominee for president has stepped up attacks on Bush in the wake of post-Republican Convention polls that show the president leading.
Kerry this week has been building on his contention that the "W" that serves as the president's middle initial stands for "wrong." "George W. Bush made the wrong choices," the speech states.
"Two-hundred-billion dollars for going it alone in Iraq. That's the wrong choice. That's the wrong direction. And that's the wrong leadership for America. Time to make it right," Kerry said.
