Hezbollah: protest against UN resolution

BEIRUT, Lebanon, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- The Lebanese Hezbollah guerrilla group Saturday urged Lebanese people to protest a U.N. Security Council resolution on the country.

Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah said in a rally in eastern Beirut that his country was in "a cycle of danger and I call for uniting against this danger."

On Thursday, the Security Council adopted a resolution that called for the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Lebanon and dismantling the militias.

Nasrallah said the foreign forces mentioned in the international resolution was referring to the Syrian presence, of which 16,000 troops are deployed in Lebanon, adding that Syria's presence in the country was a Lebanese matter.

The leader of the Shiite group told the crowd the Security Council meant to disarm the Lebanese resistance, insisting that disarming was an Israeli demand "after Israel failed to disarm the resistance through its wars."

Nasrallah commented: "Today, Israeli demands are making their way to us under the heading of the Security Council."
