U.S. arms sales ban on Yemen lifted

SANAA, Yemen, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- The United States lifted a long-enforced ban on arms sales to Yemen Wednesday, the official Yemeni news agency, SABA, reported.

SABA said visiting U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Political and Military Affairs Lincoln Bloomfield told Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh there was no more veto on the sale of U.S. military equipment to Yemen.

The U.S. official hailed Sanaa's efforts in combating terrorism.

SABA said Bloomfield assured Yemeni authorities of Washington's desire to boost bilateral relations and cooperation.
