Kerry aide slams Bush on Iran nukes

WASHINGTON, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Sen. John Kerry's national security adviser Wednesday slammed President George W. Bush for failing to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Susan Rice, the Democratic presidential candidate's senior adviser on national security affairs, was commenting on a report from the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria that Iran is ready to start processing tons of uranium plans that can be used to make nuclear weapons.

"The Bush administration has demonstrated time and time again their incompetence in dealing with the real threats we face, and we are less safe because of it," Rice said. "A nuclear armed Iran poses poses an unacceptable risk to us and our allies. It is past time for the administration to develop a tough and effective strategy for dealing with Iran."

"We must get off the sidelines and lead our allies to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons," she said.
