Fiery crash in LA street race kills one

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Los Angeles police Wednesday arrested the driver of a car that crashed during an alleged street race and left another driver dead.

The deadly wreck occurred in the San Fernando Valley when one of the speeding vehicles slammed into a row of parked cars on Victory Boulevard and caught fire.

The 18-year-old driver who died in the crash shortly after midnight was identified as Aram Aleksanyan. Witnesses said they tried to rescue him but could not due to the fire.

KABC said the other racer, a 25-year-old male, allegedly fled the scene, but returned a short time later. Police said he could face vehicular manslaughter charges.
